Holy Chick-fil-a Batman!

God spoke to me through Batman.

No, I'm not kidding, and I'm perfectly sane - well, as sane as a working mom of three kids can be!

I was having one of "those" days. You've been there. Your after-work schedule makes your workday feel like a vacation in Maui (I love Maui!).

The slightest thing that is outside of the carefully pre-planned schedule could completely disrupt your universe. A red light. That car in front of you that doesn't realize that light turned green SECONDS ago! The phone call you answer (and regret you did) that doesn't transfer from your car speaker to your phone while you're trying to leap out of your car so you won't be late to the next commitment.

That picture above - that's me - on one of "those" days.

It's a good thing no one took a picture of me 45 seconds earlier. You would see a much different woman. She would be impatiently waiting in the designated pickup parking space looking at her phone, frowning, frantically scrolling through all forms of communication looking for information she needed and unsure where exactly to find it.

Where am I supposed to be going for this volunteer slot? Did my friend text me the information? No, it must be in GroupMe. Surely NOT an e-mail - who looks at all those?

As this internal conversation was swirling around, a dark figure approaches my car window and says (in a Bale voice) "I have an order for Marlisa."

Confession time. I've always had a crush on Batman. I know, I know - no real superpowers but instead armed with a dark past and some really cool toys. It's expected as a child of the '80s, right? I mean, the Marvel empire hadn't yet overtaken the film scene. (And let the record show that IronMan is my favorite.)

But back to my unexpected delivery hero. The poor teenage boy probably thought I was pitiful that I got so excited over Batman bringing my chicken (It was actually my daughter's chicken. There was nothing for me in that bag because who has time to eat when there are places to be, right?).

At that moment he truly was my hero. I believe God brought Batman to my car that night. Sounds crazy, I know, but hang in there with me for just a minute.

These moments are what, in my prayers as I whisper up a word of thanks, I call "sprinkles" from God.

I'm not talking about rain sprinkles or holy water sprinkles. I'm talking baked goods, sister.

When we get that cupcake with sprinkles on top, it just makes us smile. I believe it's because the sprinkles are unnecessary. They don't add to the taste. They aren't required. They are simply for our enjoyment. They make us feel special.

On this frazzled evening, Batman was my sprinkles. There are so many times God sends us things simply just to see us smile. The smile of a child, especially when that child belongs to you, is priceless. And to be the one that puts a smile on a child's face just makes you feel all warm inside.

I imagine this is how God feels when He chooses to brighten our day. He desires to bless His children. He loves to surprise us with the unnecessary. He loves to remind us how much He loves us, especially on one of "those" days.

I want to make sure to pause for a moment, look up to the heavens and smile, and thank Him for the Batman-shaped sprinkles.
